On the Record: Open Circles A/W 17

It’s finally fall! The only warmth that we're conjuring up are from those cozy cuddle sessions or from the hot trends that are going to be strutting down those leaf covered streets. One trend in particular? Open circles. Weird, I know. But here are 5 different ways to style this totally broad yet totally rad trend.

While living in London, I picked up on a few funky & cool brit style influences that I definitely planned on bringing to this side of the pond. One that was really innovative and new was this open circle detail. As odd as it may sound, this is a huge trend for this upcoming season. These have been seen in many different styles of clothing and accessories. They add a little something, something to any piece. It's a cool element of surprise and of course it’s all about the details.

So what are 5 different ways to rock this minimalist chic trend?

The first, simplest but still super effective way to style the open circle trend is on your ears. This cool new take on the classic hoop is popping up everywhere in interesting earrings designs. The difference here is the post-stud style doesn’t allow the earring to dangle but rather it stays put and adds a no fuss statement.

Style Tip: Try wearing your hair up or tucked behind your ears to show off your trendy earrings.

Style option number 2 out of 5, is to style this trend on those high-wasited jeans by synching in with an open circled belt. This trend would be seen most obviously on the buckle of the belt. This is such an easy way to elevate your styling. Another huge trend amongst the belt scene is the Gucci "double G" belt. However, the open circle detail is a bit more minimal, a lot less expensive, but still every bit as stylish. I have personally seen a few styles of this and wanted to also touch on this totally non-functional but ridiculously aesthetically pleasing approach. A simple medium to thick width belt with a large O-ring hanging off to the side. This is such a unique detail to add to your waist and again brings an elevated stylish touch.

Style Tip: Since it is fall and many of our outfits will be covered up with our coats, try synching in your coat with this belt trend. Your'e still able to keep warm but all while adding definition to your curves and showing off your trendy new belt.

Next is another accessory piece. This is also kind of a two in one. An open circle necklace is a cute and subtle approach but the other trend we’re seeing a lot of this season is necklace stacks. Fall is the season of layering so why not let it translate to your necklaces. The key here is keeping it super minimal, one consistent metallic finish, and an array of lengths. Open circle necklaces have been popping up in all our favorite trendy shops but make it fun by collecting a bunch and piling them on your neck or mix and match one or two open circles and add something unique like a name plate necklace and a metallic choker. The combinations are endless for this one and very on trend this fall.

Style tip: How you show off your necklaces are just as important as how you stack them. Long sleeve off-the-should tops, bodysuits, and sweaters are still holding up strong for the fall season however on days when your décolletage isn’t the part of the body you want to show off, opt for a sheer turtleneck or mock-neck, and keep you necklaces underneath! Let them peek through for a subtle metallic hint. This is such a stylish touch that almost looks like a mistake but is somehow super trendy.

Exposed zippers. This has been on the scene since it was re-popularized in 2012. It was a huge hit back then and is still scene here and there when the effect is needed. But, this season look out for the exposed zipper being accompanied by the open circle. Instead of your standard pull tab to open and close your zipper, the open circle has taken its place. It is still functional but brings a new energy to the basic zipper. I’ve seen this on skirts, pants and also shoes. Basically, anywhere a zipper can be installed, this open circle detail could potentially follow.

Now this one is definitely not for the faint of heart. Finally, our last way to style the open circle trend. Style number 5; harness inspired nail art featuring no other then the open circle. This trend is super out there but, if you’re willing to try this bold trend, your nails will be turning heads everywhere. Fun fact, when I goggled this trend, my nail salon was the first to pop up! They never fail with supplying the trends which makes me a very happy customer! Anyway, the harness nails are super sexy, super unique, and obviously very on trend. Nails have always been a way to try trends such as colors and finishes, but this nail design is definitely a badass statement that we will be seeing this fall for sure.

Style Tip: My favorite way to see this done is with a colorless or nude nail base and black paint used as the “leather” with metallic studs and open circles.

If you try any of these styles send a picture to my Instagram, I'd love to see them! I hope you enjoyed this read !
